Learning Targets we have worked on so far this year...


Literature/Informational:  (Students will be able to do...)
    I can explain the difference between summarizing and analyzing. I can summarize the meaning (message/main idea) of text. I can analyze the meaning (message/main idea) of text. I can support my analysis of text with evidence from the text.

Writing:  (Students will be able to do...)
    I can analyze a writing task to determine my task and purpose (RAFT).
    I can follow a routine (planning, drafting, revising, editing, publishing) for writing appropriate to my task and purpose.
    I can develop ideas in a way appropriate to my task and purpose.
    I can organize thoughts in a way appropriate to my task and purpose.
    I can write using a consistent style appropriate to my task and purpose.
    I can revise and edit to strengthen my writing.
    I can use technology to interact and collaborate with others.
    I can produce clear and coherent writing.

Language:  (Students will be able to do...)
    I can recognize when I need to use vocabulary strategies to determine the meaning of words or phrases.
    I can determine the meaning of words or phrases using my background knowledge, context clues, word parts, and/or resources.
    I can confirm the meaning of a word or phrase using my resources.

    I can communicate effectively with group members listening attentively to collaborative discussions, making meaningful contributions to collaborative discussions, and listening to others for new points of view and expertise.

Social Studies:

    I can analyze the patterns of development, growth, and decline of empires.
